Metropolitan Council Approves New Parish Council Districts

The Metropolitan Council approved new parish council districts on October 12, 2011. After reviewing the district drawings, “Plan E” was officially adopted and voted unanimously, intended to equalize the population in each council district. “Plan E” addresses the 27,000 increase in population since the last census was taken. Parish districts must be reapportioned every ten years after the U.S. Census count is released. The plan must then be submitted to the Justice Department for approval, to be effective for elections held in the fall of 2012.

"Plan E" will now be referred to as the Reapportionment Plan" of Council Districts. More information...
