Green Light Plan Completes Construction on Stumberg Lane Extension Phase I Project

Connector Roadway Provides Capacity and Critical Access Enhancements

Baton Rouge, LA — Mayor-President Melvin L. “Kip” Holden will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of the Green Light Plan’s Stumberg Lane Extension Phase I project Thursday, July 26 at 10 a.m., at the intersection of the new Stumberg Lane Extension and the new Woman’s Hospital access drive roundabout (driving directions attached), marking the completion of the 27th completed roadway construction project for the Green Light Plan.

“Like other connector projects included in the Green Light Plan, the Stumberg Lane Extension will form the foundation of a key artery for motorists to travel quickly and safely to their destination along with providing a key access point for the new Woman’s Hospital, where quick and safe travel is paramount,” Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden said. “When we see motorists using roadways like the Stumberg Lane Extension that, until the Green Light Plan, never existed, we can truly appreciate the tremendous impact of this program and the progress it represents.”

J.B. James Construction, LLC of Baton Rouge completed the $6.3 million project in just under 10 months, expanding Pecue Lane from the 90-degree turn on the existing Pecue Lane to a point approximately 1,300 feet north of Airline Highway. Additional improvements within the Phase I project include drainage improvements, gravity sewer improvements, a two-lane roundabout at the intersection of the new Stumberg Lane Extension and the Woman’s Hospital access drive, and new traffic signalization at the aligned intersection of Pecue Lane at Airline Highway.

Sewer upgrades and new gravity sewer installation, coordinated with the parish-wide Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) Program’s Jefferson-Park Forest Multiple Pump Stations project, will help ensure adequate sewer capacity for current and future developments in the area.

When possible, elements of projects included within the SSO Program have been phased into certain Green Light Plan projects such as the Stumberg Lane Extension Phase I project to minimize construction time and inconveniences to motorists, residents and businesses.

The Stumberg Lane Extension, divided into two phases in order to expedite construction, will soon provide a full connection between Pecue Lane and Airline Highway (Phase I) and then to Jefferson Highway (Phase II).

The Stumberg Lane Extension Phase II project, scheduled to go to bid in September 2012, will begin the process of extending the existing Stumberg Lane from the Jefferson Highway intersection to the end of the Stumberg Lane Extension Phase I project limit, or approximately 1,300 feet north of Airline Highway. When both phases are complete, the Stumberg Lane Extension will help form an improved north-south connection extending from Perkins Road to Coursey Boulevard.
