''Gliding into a New Step'' Event Encourages Youth to Be Prepared and Focused For School

Join District 10 Councilwoman Tara Wicker, State Representative Patricia Smith, Abishur Inc., Project RIDE & the Tyrus Thomas Foundation for the Back to School Event Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Baton Rouge River Center, 275 S. River Rd. from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. The theme for this year’s event is “Gliding Back to School in a New Step!”
This is a free event which focuses on encouraging kids and parents to get motivated and prepared for a new and positive school year. Activities will again this year include motivational speakers, live entertainment, free haircuts, school supply give away, free dental care, immunization, vision screening, and interactive informational workshops for kids and parents. In addition, there will be a variety of resource vendor booths equipped with important tools and information for getting prepared up for the new school year.

Councilwoman Tara Wicker stated, “This event has always been a great help for the youth of our city and their families. We look forward to making sure that they are equipped and ready for success this school year. The importance of education and school readiness is immeasurable. Our youth are our future and it is our duty and responsibility to lead them in the most positive direction.” said Councilwoman Wicker.

Representative Patricia Haynes Smith stated, "As this new school year approaches, it is now more than ever that our children need to have the necessary tools needed to begin the school year. This is one opportunity for not only children but parents as well, to learn about all of the topics that impact their children and how to cope with This is a free event which focuses on encouraging kids and parents to get motivated and prepared for a new and positive school year. I've held my own back to school event for five years and I'm grateful to reach even more kids and families in need through my partnership with Councilwoman Wicker and Representative Smith," said Tyrus Thomas.
