AMC network shooting new series in Baton Rouge

The Sundance Channel, which is owned and operated by AMC Networks, is in Baton Rouge to film a pilot and six episodes for the much anticipated television series “Hap & Leonard.”

Directed by Jim Mickle, the series is adapted from author Joe Lansdale’s Southern noir books about an unlikely pair of best friends and martial arts experts who try to stay on the right side of the law in 1980s East Texas.

On Wednesday, March 11, the Metro Council will be asked to allow the AMC Network to use office space at the old Woman’s Hospital as a temporary production office for the series.

AMC would use former Woman’s Hospital Human Resources Operations Center at 9048 Airline Highway while filming the new series.

AMC’s use of the now-vacant office space was proposed by Mayor-President Melvin L. “Kip” Holden and the Baton Rouge Film Commission, who have been working for two years to land the series.

Officials say the arrangement with AMC could be the beginning of an economically advantageous partnership for the City-Parish, especially if “Hap & Leonard” becomes a recurring series.
