HURRICANE SEASON 2015

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center is predicting a below-normal Hurricane Season, with six to eleven named storms, three to six which could become hurricanes, and zero to two that could potentially become a major hurricane. With Hurricane Season beginning today, June 1, 2015, Mayor Holden urges citizens to get Red Stick Ready and prepare for Hurricane Season. Citizens can prepare themselves and their families by having a Disaster Supply Kit, using the Buddy System, and reviewing your Family Disaster Plan.

Mayor Holden states, “Even though the predictions are for a below average Hurricane Season, now is the time to prepare and get your families prepared in case of a hurricane. It is important that we come together as a community and use the Buddy System to check on our neighbors and family members who may need our help during these times. Also, check supplies and make sure all necessary preparations for any emergency are made ahead of time. Be sure to include extra medication in case you or your loved ones are not able to make it to a pharmacy directly after a disaster, water, canned goods, batteries, and your family’s important paperwork.”

Mayor Holden urges all citizens to remain vigilant and pay attention to local weather stations as they provide valuable information on the formation and tracking of these storms.
