Mayor Broome announces expansion of Open Data BR platform to include 2016 Tax Roll and East Baton Rouge Parish property assessment data

BATON ROUGE – The 2016 East Baton Rouge Parish Assessor Tax Roll is now available on Open Data BR, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced today. The dataset contains a full listing of 2016 tax parcels in East Baton Rouge Parish and the cities of Baton Rouge, Baker, Central and Zachary as well as the accounts for all assessments completed by the East Baton Rouge Parish Assessor’s Office in 2016, including properties re-assessed as a result of their location in or proximity to areas impacted by the Great Flood of 2016.

“The release of this tax roll data through our Open Data BR platform is a prime example of how local government agencies can and should collaborate to provide valuable information and resources to the residents we serve,” Mayor Broome said. “Given this dataset includes post-flood property assessment values, it’s also a stark reminder of the devastating economic impact created by last year’s flooding and the uphill battle many residents face as they recover and rebuild.”

In addition to reviewing individual records and analyzing the entirety of the 2016 Tax Roll dataset, users can compare assessed property values to those of 2015 tax parcels, which are also accessible on Open Data BR. These records contain a number of elements associated with a specific property or parcel, including the date of the last property transfer, fair market values for the parcel, total assessed values and taxable amount of the parcel.

“The impact of the Great Flood of 2016 continues to be felt by our residents and, as my office has seen first-hand, the path toward recovery is going to be difficult for impacted property owners and our community as a whole,” East Baton Rouge Parish Assessor Brian Wilson said. “This type of information is critical to the recovery process, as well as our community’s long-term health and viability, and I’m proud to partner with Mayor Broome and her team as we collaborate, inform and educate Baton Rouge residents through an open approach to data sharing.”

Mayor Broome said she and her staff will continue working to make other datasets available for public consumption through Open Data BR as part of her commitment to innovation, transparency and collaboration across government.

Through Open Data BR’s visualization and mapping tools, users can analyze these and other datasets in a variety of ways, as well as download the full dataset or incorporate the data in custom software, web or mobile applications through the platform’s application program interface (API).
