BATON ROUGE – The Mayor’s Office My Brother’s Keeper-Baton Rouge along with Big Buddy is sponsoring the “Mentoring in Real Life Awards” Ceremony on Jan. 26 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Boudreaux’s, 2647 Government St., in Baton Rouge.
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome will speak at the event. Mayor Broome has declared January as National Mentoring Month.
“This is a wonderful program to celebrate mentors and the great work that they do to help our youth become productive citizens and leaders in our community,” Mayor Broome said.
As part of the ceremony, various organizations will be honored for their work in the community.
The awards ceremony will also serve as a kickoff to the Mentoring Connector Committee meeting that will be held next month. The Connector meeting will bring together all mentors and mentoring programs in the city so they can have a collective impact in the community. That meeting will be held on Feb. 22.
MBK-BR is a local initiative to address persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and to ensure that all young people reach their full potential. The program is a community call-to-action to enact sustainable change through policy, programs, and partnerships.
