BATON ROUGE – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome reminds citizens to set your clocks forward one hour this weekend as Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 12 at 2 a.m.
“This is also a good time to check your smoke detectors to make sure they are in working order and change your batteries,” Mayor Broome said. “We want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to keep our families safe.”
Officials estimate more than 16 million households nationwide have smoke alarms that don’t work due to dead or missing batteries.
Baton Rouge Fire Department Chief Ed Smith adds that “a working smoke detector can increase a family’s survival by more than 50 percent. We also encourage all of you to practice your escape plans and establish your meeting place.”
The Mayor also recommends checking your carbon monoxide detectors and other household alarms.
