BATON ROUGE – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and officials from the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP) encourage residents to stay vigilant throughout the evening and the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service, East Baton Rouge Parish is under the threat of tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and potential flooding in the early morning hours from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. The area could get 3 to 6 inches of rain, but the weather should clear out before the early morning commute, weather officials say.

“We have been monitoring the situation very closely and will continue to do so throughout the night and into the early morning hours,” Mayor Broome said. “’We want our citizens to know their safety is our number one concern and we are on standby if anything changes.”

The Mayor recommends citizens keep their phones charged and nearby and monitor weather forecasts throughout the night.

MOHSEP officials along with other emergency personnel will continue to communicate with the National Weather Service for the latest updates.
