BATON ROUGE, La. — The Mayor-President’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is responding to severe weather in East Baton Rouge Parish. Earlier today, the National Weather Service predicted heavy rainfall for the area through Tuesday night, and issued a flash flood watch effective Monday at 7 a.m. through Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Rainfall totals of 3” – 6” inches, with localized higher amounts, are expected. This is in addition to the rain that has already fallen. Rivers and tributaries are expected to rise.
Possible impacts of severe weather could include strong thunderstorms, frequent lightning, damaging winds, and localized flash flooding. Motorists should use caution on roads and standing water should be avoided.
Sand and sand bags are available for residents to pick up at several Baton Rouge Fire Department stations:

• #14: 4121 Harding Blvd.
