GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the City Prosecutor, plans, directs, coordinates and supervises the casework, intake and clerical functions of the pretrial diversion program. Work is performed with use of independent judgment within established guidelines and is reviewed through observation of work, periodic staff conferences, review of reports and records, and overall program effectiveness. Supervision is exercised over a staff of professional and clerical employees. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Coordinates and implements overall work program for pretrial and clerical staff; initiates work routines, procedures and methods for efficient section operation. Participates in the formulation of policies affecting the pretrial diversion program. Develops rehabilitative programs to provide alternative sentences to imprisonment; coordinates pretrial services. Explores the community for resources available for treatment and rehabilitative services offered to offenders. Reviews staff assignments; reviews effectiveness of overall program to assess utility of procedures and methods; implements modifications when necessary. Provides supervision and guidance to subordinate staff; coordinates in-service training sessions for staff; conducts informational sessions as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of modern principles, practices and techniques of professional pretrial or probation work and related social rehabilitation activities. Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations affecting operations of the assigned pretrial diversion program. Knowledge of community resources and referral agencies. Skill in the operation of modern office equipment and in the use of complex computer applications and software. Ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of office staff. Ability to make decisions recognizing established precedents and practices and to use resourcefulness and tack in meeting new problems. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to both groups and individuals. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with subordinate employees, members of other departments, various agencies and the public. Ability to apply good work habits of punctuality, reliability, preciseness and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a related field, supplemented by three years of professional work experience in either pretrial or probation services, criminal justice, or a law related field, and two years of supervisory experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
