GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Chief Architect, performs professional architectural work as an entry level licensed professional architect within the Department of Buildings & Grounds. Work involves the evaluation and preparation of architectural plans, specifications, contracts, and reports for capital improvement building construction projects. Employees work closely with design professionals, contractors, consultants, and other City-Parish employees assigned to City-Parish projects. Work is reviewed through reports and results obtained. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Evaluates and prepares architectural plans, specifications, contracts, and reports for capital improvement building construction projects. Prepares and reviews estimates, and drafts and reviews specifications related to projects under development. Analyzes data and prepares reports and correspondence related to architectural activities. Attends bid openings, participates in inspections, and records results. Inspects construction work in progress to ensure compliance with specifications; approves quality of materials and work; advises construction personnel. Prepares reports, charts, illustrations, graphs, and architectural drawings. Responds to public inquires regarding architectural activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture, particularly as applied to public works projects, including building design and development. Knowledge of public works operations and maintenance methods, materials, and equipment. Knowledge of ordinances governing installation and construction, alteration, and repair of City-Parish building properties. Knowledge of the modern developments, current literature, and sources of information regarding professional architecture. Skill in the use of a variety of computers and computer aided design and drafting software. Skill in the use of a light motor vehicle. Ability to interpret and understand construction specifications. Ability to calculate cost estimates. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, architects, engineers, and the public. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to groups and to individuals. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in architecture.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Possession of a license to practice professional architecture as issued by the Louisiana State Board of Architectural Examiners. Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
