GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs work at the beginning training level in electrical construction and maintenance activities at sewage pumping and treatment facilities. Work involves structured training in inspecting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment. Assignments are given orally or in writing. An employee of this class may be on twenty-four-hour call. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Receives training in electrical construction and maintenance activities at sewage pumping and treatment facilities. Assists with installing and repairing wiring, lighting, and electrical systems on city-owned facilities and utility systems. Assists with programing variable frequency drives; assists with troubleshooting motor control panels. Assists with pipe bending and installation of electrical conduit, equipment, feeders, branch circuits, motors, and lighting. Assists with maintenance on electrical components of pumps and lift stations; assists with maintenance on electric motors. Assist with reading electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and/or diagrams. Assists with maintaining records, parts inventory, and equipment information. Attends training schools as required. Utilizes and maintains various hand and power tools. Utilizes test equipment such as multimeters, digital voltmeters, digital calibrators, digital logic probes, oscilloscopes, frequency measuring meters, and other pertinent electrical and electronic measuring devices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles and practices of the electrical trade. Knowledge of methods, tools, and materials in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems, air systems, and mechanical systems. Knowledge of local and national electrical codes. Skill in the use of electrical and electronic testing equipment. Ability to receive training from a technical supervisor. Ability to learn the electrical and construction maintenance activities at sewage pumping and treatment facilities. Ability to learn the occupational hazards and safety precautions of sewage pumping and treatment facilities. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to climb and descend ladders and stairs. Ability to participate in a standby schedule. Ability to work after scheduled hours and during emergency situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and completion of vocational school in the field of electrical or electrical control systems.

SUBSTITUTIONS
One year of experience in a related area may substitute for completion of vocational school; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
