GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the administrative direction of the Program Administrator - Head Start or the Assistant Program Administrator - Head Start, performs highly responsible work in the development and implementation of educational curricula and in the supervision, training, and evaluation of the Head Start teaching staff. Performs other work as requested within federal and state guidelines.
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Develops and implements an educational program designed for preschool-aged children.
Reviews and critiques all lesson plans.
Assists in implementing a parentally-involved educational program for both the classroom and the home.
Monitors home visits to Head Start families made by the teaching staff.
Monitors classroom activities, staff, and children for evaluation purposes in accordance with federal agencies policies.
Prepares annual assessment of equipment and materials to ensure that the education staff has needed equipment, furnishings, and educational resources.
Organizes, assigns, and trains classroom volunteers.
Assists in supervising and evaluating teaching staff to ensure that goals and objectives are achieved.
Maintains teaching staff information in the ChildPlus Database and monitors credentials to ensure that the qualifications for required credentials, aligned with Head Start Performance Standards, are met; ensures that uncredentialed staff is actively working to obtain credentials within a specified time frame.
Participates in external partnership meetings to facilitate transition planning and maintains linkage with children beyond the transition process.

Knowledge of motivational and teaching techniques used to direct preschool-aged children in all phases of educational development.
Skill in oral, written, and interpersonal communication and effective problem solving.
Ability to plan and organize curricula for preschool-aged children for the total development of the child.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, parents, community agencies, and preschool-aged children.
Ability to understand and relate to the underprivileged, the disabled, preschool-aged children, and parents.
Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with clients and staff from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to groups and to individuals.
Ability to prepare basic statistical and narrative reports, business correspondence, and memoranda using computerized systems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information, prioritize tasks, organize time efficiently, and manage multiple demands.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate flexibility to changes in work schedules and assignments.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in early childhood development, early childhood education, speech pathology, special education, or a related field.

Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
OTHER JOB ASPECTS
This position requires computer literacy, internet and email usage, and computer software skills. Must be able to travel. Must have a satisfactory criminal background check.
