GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Executive Director/Community Development, Federal Programs and Outreach, performs executive level work developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive violence prevention strategies and programs. Position works closely with local government officials, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations to address the root causes of violence and promote safer communities. Performs other work as requested.
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Develops and implements a city-wide violence prevention strategy, including initiatives and programs to prevent violence, to intervene in at-risk communities, and to support victims of violence.
Collects, analyzes, and tracks violence trends; monitors and evaluates program outcomes to ensure effectiveness and alignment with community needs.
Advises on violence prevention and public safety policy development; advocates for resources, legislative support, and funding to support violence prevention initiatives and programs.
Builds and sustains strong relationships with community stakeholders, including local organizations, schools, law enforcement, and faith-based groups; facilitates stakeholder collaboration to improve community safety and resiliency.
Provides guidance in response to emerging violence or crises within the community and works with stakeholders and agencies to provide immediate support and long-term solutions.
Promotes public awareness of violence prevention programs and their impact; coordinates media outreach and community education campaigns to build understanding and support for prevention efforts.
Prepares and distributes various reports to the Mayor-President, stakeholders, and the general public.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the complex social and situational dynamics of violence in the community.
Knowledge of basic local, state, and federal regulations and laws related to violence prevention and intervention.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of risk assessment, conflict resolution, and crisis management.
Knowledge of inter and intra-community dynamics, the workings of criminal justice systems, and the role of violence as a cause and its resulting impact.
Skill in planning, organizing, and prioritizing and in financial management and grant writing.
Ability to engage with individuals and communities with cultural sensitivity.
Ability to identify and analyze trends and strategies to make effective data-driven decisions and to establish best practices.
Ability to problem-solve, manage complex, high-pressure situations, and remain impartial and equitable in the allocation of resources.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other departments, community leaders and organizations, public-private partners, law enforcement, government officials, and the general public.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to groups and to individuals.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in public health, criminology, social work, public administration, or any legal-related field and seven years of experience in violence prevention, public safety, or community-based leadership roles.
