GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general direction of the Assistant Director, performs responsible supervisory work in directing the mechanical and chemical maintenance operations of the East Baton Rouge Parish Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control District. Work involves supervising and participating in the repair, maintenance, fabrication, and servicing of all mechanical and automotive equipment used by the district. Incumbent maintains parts inventory and fleet records on all movable equipment. Supervision is exercised over subordinates assigned to the operations area. Work is evaluated through periodic conferences and reviews. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Supervises and assists in all repairs on mosquito and rodent control vehicles. Supervises and assists in the fabrication, installation, and calibration of all mosquito control equipment. Keeps daily records of gasoline, solvent and insecticide usage and makes necessary reports; maintains parts inventory and fleet records. Estimates the need for and requisitions equipment and supplies; prepares and implements long range equipment replacement schedules. Instructs subordinates in safety and in methods of operation and work. Uses various hand and machine tools.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the operations of automotive and spray systems equipment and of the methods used in the repair, fabrication and modification of a variety of such equipment. Knowledge of the trades and of automotive equipment and small engines and their operation and maintenance. Knowledge of the operations of mosquito aerial spray systems and chemical transfer methods used in mosquito abatement. Skill in the use and care of various hand and machine tools. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise a group of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to make decisions recognizing established precedents and practices, and to use resourcefulness in meeting new problems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, subordinates and the public. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency and three years of experience in the fabrication, repair, and servicing of automotive and spray systems equipment.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
