GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a higher classification, performs routine paraprofessional accounting work associated with accounting support services in various City-Parish departments. Work involves calculating, posting and verifying financial data used in maintaining accounting records. Incumbents perform duties independently with minimal supervision. Supervision may be exercised over clerical/fiscal personnel through the inspection of completed work. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Prepares, reviews, processes and maintains routine accounting documents, records and files. Calculates and prepares bills, invoices and account statements according to established procedures. Maintains and reconciles expenditures; prepares payment vouchers. Utilizes trial balances and prepares monthly and annual reports of a routine nature. Participates in the preparation of payrolls and related work, such as preparing bi-weekly payroll, attendance reports, various personnel forms and related reports. Reviews, investigates and resolves routine accounting discrepancies. Supervises, trains and reviews work of lower level employees.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles and practices of financial record keeping. Knowledge of basic mathematical procedures used to make fiscal calculations. Knowledge of business English used to prepare brief narrative reports. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Skill in the operation of a computer, calculator and other office machines used in connection with accounting/fiscal work. Ability to identify and resolve basic accounting problems. Ability to supervise the work of a moderate sized clerical/fiscal staff. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree with at least nine semester (thirteen and a half quarter) hours of a university professional accounting curriculum, and two years of experience in bookkeeping, fiscal record keeping, or accounting duties.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
