GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs specialized work in the Parish Attorney's office assisting staff attorneys. Work involves researching legal issues, title searches, analyzing and organizing information for case preparation and drafting legal documents. Work is performed independently and is reviewed as completed. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Researches and retrieves information from public records for case preparation. Performs title research and legal research to settle legal issues. Drafts various legal documents including contracts, grant proposals and ordinances. Prepares written responses to requests for information. Reviews grant proposals, contract documents and title documents. Records and files documents with courts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of preparation of legal research, title research or abstracts. Ability to understand detailed legal instruments as they apply to property and titles. Ability to read and interpret contracts, legal papers, grant proposals and ordinances. Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency and two years of Paralegal experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
