GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs journeyman level electrical work in construction and maintenance activities at sewage pumping and treatment facilities. Work involves performance of skilled electrical tasks in inspecting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment. Assignments are given orally or in writing. An employee of this class may be on twenty-four-hour call. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Constructs, installs, maintains, and repairs wiring, lighting, and electrical systems on city-owned facilities and utility systems; ensures that electrical systems and control panels are safe and operable. Responds to trouble calls as needed to repair pneumatic systems, mechanical systems, and electrical systems, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) as requested; determines cause of problem; identifies needed materials and equipment to perform tasks; obtains quotes on materials and supplies; files purchase orders and invoices. Programs variable frequency drives (VFDs); troubleshoots motor control panels and pulls wire. Performs pipe bending and installation of electrical conduit, equipment, feeders, branch circuits, motors, and lighting. Performs maintenance on electrical components of pumps and lift stations; performs maintenance on electric motors. Draws and reads electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and/or diagrams; reads and interprets technical repair manuals, operating guides, schematics, wiring diagrams, shop drawings, and codebooks. Uses a variety of electronic testing equipment to ensure accuracy of diagnosis and repair; maintains simple activity records and completes job orders. Operates various hand tools and some heavy equipment; maintains equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Utilizes test equipment such as multimeters, digital voltmeters, digital calibrators, digital logic probes, oscilloscopes, frequency measuring meters, and other pertinent electrical and electronic measuring devices. Works on high voltage lines and equipment. Works with Plant Instrument Technicians on maintenance and repair activities. Assists supervisor with maintaining records, parts inventory, and equipment information.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the operation of sewage pumping and treatment facilities. Knowledge of principles and practices of the electrical trade. Knowledge of methods, tools, and materials in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems, air systems, and mechanical systems. Knowledge of local and national electrical codes. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of sewage pumping and treatment facilities and the electrical trade. Knowledge of pumps and motors used in pump stations. Knowledge of VFDs for pump motors up to 500 horsepower (HP). Knowledge of high and low voltage equipment and all types of flow meters, recorders, and transmitters. Knowledge of PLCs, indicators, and other sensing equipment. Skill in the use of electronic testing equipment. Skill in the operation of hand tools and heavy equipment to perform assigned tasks. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to diagnose electrical problems and determine the time and materials required to make the repair. Ability to read electrical diagrams and to follow written and oral directions. Ability to provide technical supervision to other employees. Ability to carry out scheduled programs of inspection and maintenance and to keep systematic records of work performed on electrical equipment. Ability to climb and descend ladders and stairs. Ability to participate in a standby schedule. Ability to work after scheduled hours and during emergency situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
