GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Assistant Wastewater Collections Systems Manager, performs responsible technical and administrative work in supervising the operations of the Wastewater Sewer Inspections division. Inspects work on various projects and maintains files and records of all vital information. Work is performed with some latitude and independence in decision making within established policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, reports, and for results obtained. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Prepares technical reports and letters for the Assistant Wastewater Collection Systems Manager; maintains all necessary records and files. Investigates complaints concerning sewer cave-ins, backups, and related issues; takes or recommends corrective action. Plans, assigns, directs, interviews, and evaluates the work of subordinates. Performs routine inspection of equipment, grounds, facilities, and overall condition of the treatment plant. Designs and calculates labor/materials cost estimates on sewer projects; modifies blueprints and maps when necessary; ensures compliance with safety standards and project specifications. Assists with departmental budget preparation and control; oversees payroll. Prepares and gives presentations periodically. Oversees the Wastewater Collection warehouse. Answers interrogatories for lawsuits; reviews insurance claims.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and equipment of wastewater inspections. Knowledge of modern supervisory practices and methods. Knowledge of safety standards, City/Parish codes and ordinances, and regulations governing operation of Wastewater Inspections facilities. Skill in the drawing and reading of blueprints and construction maps. Skill in communicating effectively with the public and individuals within the business. Ability to supervise the work of operating and maintenance personnel. Ability to assist with preparation of a departmental budget. Ability to maintain and prepare accurate operating reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public. Ability to communicate clearly, orally, and in writing. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and four years of progressively responsible experience in sewer disposal systems involving inspection, construction, maintenance, and drainage.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Employees of this classification must obtain a Class I Wastewater Collection Certificate issued by the Louisiana State Department of Health within one calendar year from the initial employment or employee will be terminated. Obtaining a Class I certificate is a requirement of employment; therefore the probationary period will end after the employee has completed six (6) months of employment and received the required Class I certificate. Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
