GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a higher classification, performs responsible technical electronic installation, maintenance, and repair work on the 800 MHZ Trunked Radio System Backbone equipment and other equipment as required. Work involves responsibility for completing electronic assignments and ensuring that the electronic and radio equipment is maintained in continuous operational order. Work also involves the use of independent judgment and is reviewed through periodic conferences. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs two-way radio and telephone equipment, including, but not limited to 800 MHZ Trunked Radio System Backbone. Provides technical assistance to other Telecommunication personnel in the performance of their duties. Performs complex repair work on electronic and transistorized equipment. Ensures compliance with Federal Communications Commission regulations; maintains cleanliness and safety standards.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, and materials of radio and telephone repair. Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, and materials of electrical systems. Knowledge of component parts and repair methods used in electronic, electromechanical, and radio equipment, including transistorized circuits. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions to be followed. Skill in the operation of electronic, radio, and telephone repair equipment. Skill in the maintenance of electronic, radio, and telephone repair equipment. Ability to install, alter, repair, maintain, and locate defects in many complex electrical, electronic, and radio equipment and systems. Ability to understand and follow highly complex and technical oral and written instructions. Ability to work from complex wiring diagrams, blueprints, and sketches. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency supplemented by completion of coursework in electronics or radio installation, maintenance and repair, and four years of work experience in electronics.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
