GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general direction of the Airport Safety and Operations Manager, performs responsible supervisory work in planning and inspecting building alterations and new construction at the Greater Baton Rouge Airport. Work involves meeting with contractors, and building occupants to determine building needs, time and cost estimates, structure design, and other aspects of new construction or remodeling projects. The incumbent is subject to twenty-four hour call for situations needing immediate attention. Work is assigned orally and through work orders and is reviewed daily through personal observation for results obtained. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Oversees all major remodeling projects on airport buildings, runways and property. Assists the professional engineer in planning and coordinating new construction of airport building structures. Inspects the workmanship and materials of all major construction projects on a daily basis, and makes periodic inspections of smaller projects, which are inspected regularly by the maintenance supervisors. Works with contractors on a daily basis to determine if projects are being completed in a timely manner. Reviews the work of subordinate supervisors and advises them on policy procedures, practices and problems of an unusual nature. Supervises the maintenance and repair of tractors, trucks and other airport maintenance equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of construction materials and the quality and use of such materials used in the construction industry. Knowledge of City-Parish ordinances and codes relative to construction and alteration of buildings. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and building design sketches. Ability to make complex, tactful, and difficult inspections and to issue orders firmly, tactfully and impartially. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, contractors, architects, property owners, and the public. Ability to prepare sketches and/or drawings to illustrate construction features. Ability to review and determine the validity of time and cost estimates. Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical computations. Ability to operate a ground control radio on the airfield. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and three years of experience in construction and maintenance, operational, and inspectional activities.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

For security reasons, as per TSA provision 1542; all applicant/employees of the Greater Baton Rouge Airport District who have access to restricted areas will be required to have a ten (10) year criminal background check to the extent allowable by the law.
