GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Chief Deputy Constable, performs highly responsible administrative work regarding the efficient and effective operation of the Constable's Office, its staff and functions. Work involves the execution of court processes and court orders, budget preparation, departmental purchases and liaison with other agencies as a representative of the Constable and Constable Office. Incumbent is also responsible for the continuity of function of the divisions, training of personnel, and the personnel relations and supervision of law enforcement and clerical staff. Work requires the use of independent judgment and the creation and enforcement of guidelines. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Directs the divisional supervisors and activities in the daily operation of the Constable's Office as directed by the Chief Deputy Constable and Constable. Conducts training of sworn personnel, schedules training activities, approves sick and vacation requests, assist in disciplinary matters, employee disputes and personnel hearings. Analyzes office operations, policies and procedures, makes staffing assignments and prepares official reports for the Constable and Chief Deputy Constable. Responds to inquiries, prepares memorandums, and participates in planning and research. Oversees and conducts Constable sales, money collections and other related functions. Serves as liaison with other agencies, courts and governmental bodies. Represents the City Constable and Office at functions as designated by the Chief Deputy and Constable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of state and local criminal and civil laws. Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of civil process. Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of warrant operations, jail operations and court security. Knowledge of city and parish geography, topography, and neighborhoods. Knowledge of local governmental process and budget preparation. Knowledge and use of Constable's chain of command, supervisory methods and techniques. Skill in the use of firearms and instruction. Skill in the use of office equipment, radios, computers, etc. Skill in the use of light motor vehicles. Ability to plan, direct and evaluate office employees. Ability to plan, direct and evaluate training programs. Ability to make decisions quickly in accordance with established policies and procedures. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, four years of experience in progressively responsible supervisory work experience in law enforcement operations and administration and one year of experience as a certified law enforcement instructor.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Certified as a Peace Officer Standard Test (POST) graduate of a certified law enforcement academy.
