GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the minimal supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs responsible work involving the maintenance and operations of street or road lighting projects for the Department of Transportation & Drainage. Work involves making investigations and recommendations involving maintenance and operation of lighting projects either street lighting or road lighting. Supervision is exercised over clerical personnel. The employee of this class exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in various administrative details and duties of the projects assigned. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Administers a variety of administrative and supervisory details through performance of tasks in construction, maintenance and operations on lighting projects and schedules. Recommends work schedules and projects for construction, maintenance and operations of lighting projects. Conducts field inspection with electrical companies regarding additional lighting requests. Investigates assigned complaints and outages, making recommendations concerning the correcting of a particular problem. Prepares and presents recommendations and reports on street or road lighting activities. Advises the public and other parties concerning policies, rules and regulations on lighting projects; takes action by these proceedings. Works with the subdivision engineer and subdivision developers on the installation of street lights. May supervises a small staff of clerical personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of modern principles and practices of construction, maintenance and operational procedures. Knowledge of the operations, policies, procedures, rules, regulations and laws governing the activities of the Department of Transportation & Drainage. Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and operation of street and road lighting. Knowledge of administrative techniques related to purchasing, budget preparation and control, personnel administration and accounting. Ability to devise, recommend and install appropriate record system and clerical procedures relating to the Department of Transportation & Drainage. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with official groups, fellow workers, and the public. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and three years of responsible experience in work involving street or road lighting projects.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS

Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
