GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs standardized assignments in manual, clerical and messenger work. Work involves tasks that can be physically demanding at times. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Receives and delivers City-Parish office communications and mail, packages, or other materials on established schedules or special assignments. Sorts and separates incoming mail and places in proper distribution slots. Operates postage metering machine, recording postage charges. Prepares outgoing mail bundles in accordance with postal regulations. Prepares certified, registered, and special delivery mail. May be required to drive an automobile in connection with delivery duties. May be required to lift heavy packages or other materials.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to learn assigned tasks readily and to adhere to established procedures. Ability to make simple arithmetical calculations and to write legibly. Ability to understand and follow simple oral or written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Physical strength to do manual tasks and lift heavy objects to deliver postal packages. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS

Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
