GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Treasurer, performs specialized work in the supervision of subordinate mail clerks involved in the processing and delivering of City-Parish government mail and interoffice communications, as well as other related tasks. Supervision is exercised over an assistant, as well as the mail clerks. Performs other work as required.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Trains and supervises a small number of employees engaged in collecting, processing and delivering City-Parish government mail and interoffice communications. Check postage placed on mail; prepares records of postage usage. Collects and delivers certified and registered mail to departments. Outlines routes to be followed by mail clerks. Prepares requisition orders for supplies and equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the rules and regulations in processing mail. Knowledge and skills in the operation and maintenance of postage meter and scales. Knowledge of the location of various departments in the City-Parish government. Ability to plan, organize and supervise a small group of employees in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and two years of responsible experience in sorting and routing mail and preparing outgoing material for mailing.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS

Position(s) of this classification may require a valid Louisiana driver's license. If license is required, must be maintained throughout employment in this position.
