GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs routine manual and clerical work in stock handling and simple stores record keeping. Work involves the receipt, storage, maintenance and issuance of supplies, materials, and equipment, and the keeping of simple stores records. Duties involve considerable manual and clerical work and may involve delivery activities and incidental automotive equipment operation. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Receives, unpacks, sorts and stores items systematically on shelves, in bins or storage; checks incoming materials with delivery tickets and requisitions for accuracy. Issues supplies, materials, equipment, uniforms and weapons, and maintains appropriate stock records. Checks supplies in stock and reports materials and supplies for reordering; assists in periodic inventory of supplies to various locations in the parish; may operate automotive equipment on an incidental basis. Operates automotive equipment such as a forklift or front-end loader in handling receipts and withdrawals of stock. Records serial number on weapons in the Police Department.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of storekeeping and shipping methods and practices. Ability to make simple arithmetical calculations and to keep simple records. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to understand and use the computer according to job requirements. Ability to perform heavy manual work in lifting and removing stock. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
