GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs responsible clerical and manual stores work in stock handling and ordering. Work involves responsibility for ordering and handling a variety of commodities in a large storeroom. Duties involve manual and clerical work and may involve delivery activities. Incumbents work within prescribed procedures and guidelines, but do have the authority to make certain decisions and policies in performing the work. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Assists in the receipt, storage, and issuance of office supplies or a variety of commodities used by various City-Parish departments. Prepares requisitions for materials; keeps superior notified of stock on hand and makes purchases of designated commodities. Maintains the maintenance of perpetual inventories and prepares detailed store records or reports. Checks incoming materials against requisitions; receives, unpacks, sorts and stores items systematically on shelves, in bins or storage areas. Operates equipment such as a forklift or front-end loader in handling receipts and withdrawals of stock. Runs errands for the Warehouse. Dispatches deliveries.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of storekeeping and shipping methods and practices. Knowledge of purchases and requisition procedures. Skill in the operation of assigned equipment. Ability to manage routine storekeeping, ordering methods, and practices. Ability to make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy. Ability to maintain records of minor complexity, to prepare reports, and to perform other moderately difficult clerical work. Ability to understand and utilize the computer according to job requirements. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to perform manual labor work in lifting and removing stock. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and one year of experience in the keeping of office supplies and stock records.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
