GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs responsible supervisory work involving the proper receipt, storage, and issuance of a wide variety of automotive parts within a large City-Parish maintenance and repair facility. Work involves directing a moderately complex stock control system and supervising the proper inventory maintenance of automotive parts. Standard storeroom procedures used by public and private automotive parts supply stores are generally followed within the realm of City-Parish policies and procedures. Supervision is exercised over stock clerks and other subordinates working in the parts supply room. Work is reviewed through inspections and periodic audits. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Plans, supervises, and trains employees responsible for the receipt, storage, and issuance of automotive parts within a large parts room for the Department of Fleet Management; issues proper parts as required by jobs in progress. Initiates requisitions for replenishing stocks and for new stocks; locates parts, secures prices, and assigns runners to pick up parts; checks parts received against invoices and verifies correctness. Maintains parts manuals, stock control of all parts, proper storage of parts by bin, inventorying of parts periodically, and completion of all inventory records. Operates computer and office equipment. Analyzes stocks for the purpose of determining future needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of vehicle parts systems used in the repair of automotive, heavy, agricultural, and industrial equipment. Knowledge of modern practices and procedures utilized in the operation of a public and/or private automotive parts facility. Knowledge of periodic and perpetual inventory procedures. Knowledge of computerized inventory systems to maintain and control inventory, track orders, and process payments. Knowledge of purchases and requisition procedures. Knowledge of the placing and storing of automotive parts and supplies. Knowledge of the application and types of parts and tools used in automotive repair. Knowledge of simple bookkeeping methods and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, subordinates, and the public. Ability to express ideas and instructions effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to plan and supervise the work of a small number of subordinate workers. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and two years of experience in inventory control, supply chain management, or warehouse operations, including six months of supervisory experience.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
