GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Human Development & Services, performs responsible work in coordinating the repairs, maintenance and general upkeep of buildings and its equipment of government grant programs. Work involves coordinating the cleaning and performing minor repairs of buildings and equipment, assessing property damages, coordinating major repairs with appropriate sources, taking physical inventories and verifying supplies received with invoices. The incumbent of this position works unusual hours in caring for grants buildings before and/or after normal business hours, and the incumbent is on twenty-four hour calls for situations needing immediate attention. Work is performed within the guidelines of the grant program regulations. Performs other work as requested.
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Takes physical inventory of all grants properties and maintains accurate records to include type, description and location; receives and verifies goods and supplies with invoices.
Delivers or picks up checks, reports, supplies, correspondences, mail, etc.
Inspects buildings for safety hazards and security procedures; files necessary police reports in the event of theft or vandalism; assesses and coordinates property maintenance and repairs for grant assets.
Supervises employees who deliver commodities and maintains the buildings.
Schedules periodic maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep for grant vehicles.
May operate light automotive equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of City-Parish inventory policies and procedures and grant program regulations governing acquisition, disposition and inventory records.
Knowledge of standard practices, materials, and equipment used in the custodial field.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of light automotive equipment.
Knowledge of zoning and building ordinances.
Knowledge of security and safety hazards.
Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment used in general maintenance, construction and repair work.
Ability to plan, organize, supervise and coordinate the work of a small number of subordinate workers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, subordinates, City-Parish officials, and the public.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and two years of experience in general building maintenance, including six months of supervisory experience.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
