GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a higher classification, performs responsible technical work maintaining network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, and client-based software for multiple City-Parish departments, as well as outside agencies. Work involves installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of these systems, which may or may not be part of the main network. An employee in this class may be required to work shift work and is subject to unusual working hours, as well as twenty-four hour call for situations needing immediate attention. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Installs, configures, and maintains network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, and client-based software. Monitors the operation of network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, and client-based software to ensure proper functioning and to prevent damage caused by malfunctioning equipment/software or improper operation techniques. Confers with end-users, co-workers, and/or superiors to assist in resolving minor problems with network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, and client-based software. Receives, tracks, and resolves trouble calls involving network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, and client-based software; reports the nature of the problems to outside service representatives; maintains a repair log and keeps track of equipment sent and returned for repairs; checks equipment being returned from repair; verifies with end-users that equipment is functioning properly. Troubleshoots and temporarily replaces inoperable network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, and peripheral devices until it can be serviced; relocates and installs this equipment as needed; troubleshoots data line problems and reports problems to service representatives. Maintains a detailed inventory of all network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, and peripheral devices; maintains diagram of network equipment, including data circuits with location, wiring schemes, cable pin-outs, and other information as deemed necessary. Prepares end-user instruction and documentation on the use of personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, and client-based software Trains end-users to operate new or modified personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, and client-based software. Runs and installs cable ends for connection to network devices. Conducts research on emerging network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, and client-based software in support of enhancing City-Parish information systems. Documents system procedures for use by other Information Services personnel. Cleans equipment when necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of network, personal computer, mobile device, printer, peripheral device, and client-based software operations and probable cause of malfunctions. Knowledge of network protocols used within the City-Parish. Knowledge of client-based operating systems used within the City-Parish. Knowledge of office suite software used within the City-Parish. Skill in the use of a light motor vehicle. Ability to use network test equipment to troubleshoot malfunctions in the network. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions in resolving equipment, personal computer, mobile device, printer, peripheral device, and client-based software problems. Ability to troubleshoot network, personal computer, mobile device, printer, peripheral device, and client-based software. Ability to instruct end-users in the use of computers and software. Ability to lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Ability to use written, oral, and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with co-workers and non-technical end-users. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to learn and understand new technologies. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, supplemented by completion of a vocational technical school in electronics or networking, and two years of experience in installation, maintenance, and support of network equipment, personal computers, mobile devices, printers, peripheral devices, or client-based software.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
