GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a technical superior, performs advanced technical work involving departmental or enterprise-wide server systems operations. Work involves maintenance and repair of servers, domain administration and file security. Also works with other technical positions in troubleshooting client/server network issues. Work requires the exercise of independent judgment in accordance with established policies, rules and regulations. Work is subject to review through discussion and observation of results obtained. Employees of this classification are required to work in a designated department, and at various sites as assigned. Work is often collaborative in nature and can require cooperation, consultation, and guidance from the City-Parish Information Services Department. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Installs, upgrades, and maintains network server hardware and operating systems, and server-based software; monitors performance of servers and server-based software. Installs, upgrades, and maintains departmental or enterprise-wide E-mail server; monitors performance of E-mail server. Configures and performs backups, and restores network servers. Manages user accounts accessing network servers; assigns file level security to user accounts; grants users Internet and E-mail access. Supports departmental or enterprise-wide document imaging systems software. Documents standard operating procedures for server related tasks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles and practices of server and networked computerized systems. Knowledge of the capabilities and requirements of network servers and peripheral equipment. Ability to keep abreast of new technological developments of computer software and hardware. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, and one year of experience in departmental or enterprise wide server systems operations.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
