GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a technical superior, performs highly responsible advanced technical work involving City-Parish enterprise-wide server systems operations. Work involves assisting in planning and implementing new server related infrastructure technologies, maintenance and repair of the City-Parish's servers, domain administration and file security. Also works with Information Services technicians in troubleshooting client/server network issues. Work requires the exercise of independent judgment in accordance with established policies, rules and regulations. Employees may serve as lead worker in providing advice or assistance relative to complex enterprise-wide server systems operations. Work is subject to review through discussion and observation of results obtained. Employees of this classification are required to work in the Information Services Department. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Assists in researching, testing, planning and implementing new server related infrastructure technologies. Installs, upgrades, and maintains City-Parish network server hardware and operating systems, and server-based software; monitors performance of servers and server-based software. Installs, upgrades, and maintains enterprise-wide E-mail server; monitors performance of E-mail server. Installs, upgrades and maintains enterprise-wide database server; monitors performance of database server. Configures and performs backups, and restores network servers. Manages user accounts accessing network servers; assigns file level security to user accounts; grants access to Internet and E-mail users. Supports enterprise-wide document imaging systems software. Documents standard operating procedures for server related tasks. Trains lower level employees, reviews their work and provides guidance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the principles and practices of server and networked computerized systems. Knowledge of SQL server software. Knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems. Knowledge of the capabilities and requirements of network servers and peripheral equipment. Ability to keep abreast of new technological developments of computer software and hardware. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, and three years of experience in enterprise-wide server systems operations.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
