LOCATION OF WORK
Greater Baton Rouge Airport District
Under the general supervision of the Airport Police/ARFF Duty Shift Supervisor, or a supervisor of a higher classification, performs duties as an Airport Surveillance Monitor at the Greater Baton Rouge Airport District. Work involves monitoring and operating the airport access control computer system, surveillance cameras and fire alarm computer system. Work also involves the responsibility of monitoring the airport police radios and dispatching Airport Police/ARFF Officers to law enforcement, medical and/or fire fighting emergencies. Employees of this class may be required to work rotating shift schedules. Work is reviewed through conferences, spot checks and periodic observations. Performs other work as requested.
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Monitors security surveillance equipment, maintains records, and dispatches Airport Police/ARFF to routine and emergency situations. Contacts local, state and federal agencies and authorities concerning emergencies which occur at the Greater Baton Rouge Airport District. Operates the National Crime Information Computer (N.C.I.C.) relative to police procedures and background history information on applicants applying for airport security cards to work in security sensitive areas. Receives and disseminates security information issued by the Federal Aviation Agency. Performs any related surveillance or clerical duties as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the geography of airport as well as the city, streets and neighborhoods immediately surrounding the airport. Knowledge of the principles involved in the operation of radio, telephone and related communications equipment. Skill in the use of computer terminals and related data entry equipment. Ability to think and act quickly, calmly, and accurately in emergency situations. Ability to speak clearly with a well-modulated voice, and to effectively deal with the public in a polite and positive manner. Ability to prepare routine reports and records. Ability to read and interpret maps. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and one year of experience in dispatching or monitoring surveillance equipment.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) The ability to obtain certification to operate the National Crime Information Computer (N.C.I.C.) within one (1) year.
OTHER JOB ASPECTS
Position(s) may be required to pass a typing skill test at 30 words per minute. For security reasons, as per TSA provision 1542; all applicant/employees of the Greater Baton Rouge Airport District who have access to restricted areas will be required to have a ten (10) year criminal background check to the extent allowable by the law. Employees found to have an excessive criminal record or other misrepresentations of employment will not be eligible for employment.
