GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of Library personnel of a higher classification, performs routine manual and clerical work in the parish library system. Work involves monitoring patron computers and shelving and filing books and other library materials. Employees of this classification may also perform other routine library assignments as needed. Work is subject to continuous review and close supervision. Performs other work as requested. Note: Employees within this classification are hired on a part-time basis and paid at an hourly rate.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Assists patrons with productivity software applications, library databases, the Internet, copiers, microfilm readers/printers, computers, and printers throughout the library. Maintains paper supplies in all printers. Sorts and returns books and magazines to proper locations. Performs filing and copying duties for the Vertical File as directed by the supervisor. Reads shelves of assigned section and replaces books in the proper order under the prescribed system. Assists staff with other routine tasks; may help patrons find library materials.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Skill in the use of Microsoft Word, other Microsoft Office products, or other productivity software. Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with library patrons; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and patrons. Ability to learn, follow oral and written instructions, and willingness to perform assigned tasks. Ability to push, lift, bend, and reach as needed for shelving, moving heavy boxes of books, setting up tables for programs, etc. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency and six months of experience in general clerical duties.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS

OTHER JOB ASPECTS
Employees of this class must pass a Microsoft Office PC skills test administered by the Human Resources Department within the six (6) month probationary period or employee will be terminated.
