GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the close supervision of a teacher, performs responsible work in assisting the supervision and education of preschool aged children. Work involves assisting a teacher in conducting daily educational and recreational programs for preschool aged children. An employee of this class also assists in preparing the classroom for activities, serving lunches and snacks, and supervising special activities. Performs other work as requested. Note: Most employees within this classification are paid an hourly rate and work ten (10) months or less a year.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Under the direction of a teacher, supervises children to ensure safety of the child. Prepares the physical environment for activities including meals, and rest periods. Performs specific teaching activities as assigned by a teacher, such as taking children to cafeteria, recording attendance, giving children their vitamins, and other related tasks. Assists in teaching the children good eating habits and proper personal hygiene. Supervises the children on buses and assists them in crossing streets.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of motivational techniques used to direct preschool aged children in health, safety, and educational development. Ability to teach, supervise, and relate to preschool aged children both individually and in groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and six months of experience in supervising preschool children's activities.

Must be able to bend, stoop and lift 50 pounds. Must be able to ride and travel on a school bus. Position(s) in this classification may require typing or other computer software skills.
