GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Program Administrator - Head Start, performs responsible nutrition planning work for the Head Start Program in East Baton Rouge Parish. Work involves the planning, promotion, execution and supervision of a food program for preschool aged children. Work is performed within the federal and state guidelines established. Supervision is exercised over subordinate kitchen staff for adherence to dietary and health regulations and plans. Performs other work as requested.
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Develops an approved nutrition program for preschool aged children.
Supervises subordinate kitchen staff in the procurement, preparation and delivery of all food.
Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the Head Start food program.
Maintains cooperative relationships with personnel of related public and private agencies assisting the Head Start Program.
Enforces all health and sanitary regulations as applied in the preparation and delivery of food.
Observes mealtime at various Head Start sites to ensure proper nutritional standards and services are being performed.
Prepares nutritionally balanced menus to ensure a balanced diet for preschool aged children.
Maintains record-keeping system which guarantees information is available to U.S.D.A. inspections.
Manage the CACFP budget and food program in Head Start.
Conduct Nutrition education trainings for staff and parents.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of nutrition and its application in an educational program.
Knowledge of dietary requirements of preschool aged children.
Knowledge of sanitary and health regulations as they apply to the preparation of food.
Ability to effectively supervise a moderate sized staff of kitchen employees.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, the general public and other agencies.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in dietetics, food and nutrition, community nutrition, or a closely related field.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
