GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general direction of the Chief EMS Operations Officer, performs responsible technical medical work in the supervision of EMS field operations. Work involves assisting in planning, organizing, coordinating and directing field operations activities to ensure delivery of comprehensive prehospital emergency medical care to all persons within East Baton Rouge Parish. Employees of this class are subject to twenty-four hour call in cases of disaster and major medical emergencies. Performs other work as requested.
ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Assists in planning, organizing, coordinating and directing EMS field operations activities to ensure delivery of comprehensive prehospital emergency medical care to all persons within East Baton Rouge Parish.
Coordinates the activities of subordinate shift supervisors to ensure operational readiness of emergency vehicles, equipment, supplies and personnel.
Assists with investigating internal and external complaints; observes employee performance to ensure adherence to established policies and medical standards.
Assists in coordinating the activities of EMS with other public safety agencies to ensure efficient inter-departmental operations at the scene of emergencies.
Assists the Chief EMS Operations Officer in designing, implementing and directing the pre-hospital emergency medical treatment and transportation program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of modern principles, practices and techniques of emergency services administration, emergency management and disaster response.
Knowledge of controlling laws and regulations affecting emergency medical services.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards associated with emergency medical work.
Knowledge of modern technology pertinent to the provision of advanced prehospital emergency medical services.
Knowledge of investigative procedures and methods.
Ability to plan and direct medical response to major disasters and emergencies in a calm, professional and efficient manner.
Ability to delegate, supervise and review the work of subordinates performing activities related to the provision of emergency medical services in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to gather, analyze and evaluate complex situations; make reasoned recommendations; and prepare concise written and oral reports.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in a related field, and three years of experience in the management of emergency medical services, including one year of experience supervising EMT Paramedics.
