GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Medical Advisor and the Emergency Medical Services Administrator, performs highly responsible technical medical work in the training of emergency medical employees in the emergency care and treatment of sickness and accident victims. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Plans, institutes, and directs training and refresher programs for EMT Paramedics, EMT Intermediates, and Basics that comply with licensing and certification regulations. Reviews and critiques medical services provided by EMS emergency vehicles. Conducts workshops on emergency medical treatment, such as first aid and CPR, to general public; participates in public awareness programs on EMS services. Reviews training programs of emergency medical staff with Medical Advisor and implements changes as directed; attends departmental and hospital meetings as required. Assists in interviewing and selection process of new employees for field paramedic positions; also the interview process during the promotion of field paramedics to management positions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of paraprofessional emergency medical practices and techniques of the basic and advanced life support level. Knowledge of the occupational hazards associated with emergency medical work. Knowledge of training and supervisory techniques used in the emergency medical field. Knowledge of controlling laws and regulations affecting emergency medical services. Ability to train subordinate personnel in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to think and act quickly, calmly, and accurately in emergency situations. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, supplemented by graduation from an approved school of nursing, or EMT Paramedic course (ACLS) certification, and three years of experience in the training of emergency medical technicians.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Must possess a valid professional nurse's license as issued by the Louisiana State Board of Nurse Examiners or registration as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, and certification by Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Office of Public Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Service, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
