GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager, performs responsible technical work in the instructing and training of wastewater personnel in the field of wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal within the Department of Environmental Services. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Plans, institutes, and directs training programs for wastewater employees that comply with state licensing and certification regulations. Plans, schedules, and directs in-house employee enhancement programs to provide additional training for employees requiring certification achievement; ensures that all employees are in compliance with licensing and certification at all times. Serves as safety coordinator within the division by conducting regular plant site safety meetings, safety workshops, and continuing education of safety procedures and practices. Reviews other wastewater training programs and practices in order to keep abreast of current certification criteria and training techniques.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of modern basic, intermediate, and advanced wastewater treatment and collection practices and principals. Knowledge of state and federal regulatory programs which govern certification criteria for wastewater personnel. Knowledge of training techniques used in conducting wastewater training programs. Knowledge of OSHA, state, and local safety ordinances and regulations. Ability to train and instruct employees in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to speak effectively before large groups and to present information accurately. Ability to establish and maintain an effective safety program within the wastewater division. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in environmental science or a closely related field, and one year of experience in instructing wastewater treatment and collection certification regulations.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current throughout employment in this classification.) Possession of a Wastewater Treatment Class IV license or a Wastewater Collection Class IV license.
