GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of a higher classification, performs advanced custodial and supervisory work in and around public buildings. Work involves scheduling particular custodial work in various public offices in such a manner as to ensure thorough cleaning on a regular basis. Also, included is the constant review and inspection of all custodial work in assigned City-Parish buildings and adjacent grounds. Incumbents may be required to work unusual working hours and in more than one location. Close supervision is exercised over Custodians. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Plans, organizes and directs the work of custodial employees. Participates in the various cleaning duties of subordinate custodial employees. Maintains stocks of cleaning supplies, issues supplies as needed, and reorders supplies. Determines which cleaning materials and equipment are best suited for a particular use. Estimates time needed for a particular job and quantity of cleaning supplies necessary to sufficiently do the job. Receives, reviews, and forwards building and mechanical equipment maintenance needs to the proper source. Ensures that all assigned buildings are locked or unlocked as necessary. Instructs subordinates in the proper operation and care of commercial cleaning materials and equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, materials and equipment used in the custodial field. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Knowledge of supervisory methods and the proper utilization of men, equipment and materials. Ability to instruct and train employees in custodial activities. Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical computations. Ability to plan, organize, supervise and coordinate the work of a moderate number of custodial employees. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and two years of experience in custodial work involving the use of commercial cleaning materials and equipment.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
