GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs responsible inventory and clerical work that may include minor supervisory work. Work involves filing, typing, ordering and receiving of a wide variety of commodities, and automotive parts and other equipment. The primary emphasis in this class is the level of complex clerical duties involved in daily activities. Incumbents work within prescribed guidelines but have the authority to make independent decisions in performing the work. Supervision may be exercised over lower level employees. Work is assigned orally and is reviewed through personal observation and for results obtained. Performs other work as requested. Note: Some employees within this classification are hired on a part-time basis and paid at an hourly rate.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Assists in the receipt, storage, and issuance of office supplies or a variety of commodities used by various City-Parish Departments. Orders office supplies, police equipment, and a variety of commodities by calling vendors; keeps records. Prepares Direct Pay requisitions, types correspondence and payrolls. Maintains the maintenance of perpetual inventories and prepares detailed store records or reports; completes physical inventory. Meets with vendors to resolve problems. Responds to inquiries whether in person, by telephone, or written correspondence. May operate automotive equipment such as a fork lift or front-end loader in handling receipts and withdrawals of stock. May supervise lower level stock clerks in the receipt and issuance of supplies. Maintains tools; does minor repair of equipment/tools; cleans work area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of policies and procedures of inventory control. Knowledge of policies and procedures of warehouse storage. Knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices of government record keeping. Knowledge of practices and procedures of requisitions. Skill in the safe operation of a light vehicle. Skill in the operation of modern office equipment, such as, the telephone, typewriter, calculator, computer terminal and related peripherals. Ability to be organized. Ability to maintain detailed stock records. Ability to physically perform work assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to supervise lower level subordinate staff. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and two years of work experience as a stock clerk.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS
