GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Automotive Parts Supervisor, performs responsible automotive stock handling and ordering for the Department of Fleet Management. Work involves procuring and issuing automotive parts, tools, and supplies for equipment maintenance personnel, maintaining and utilizing a computerized inventory system, and examining and inspecting stock to ensure quality of parts and for wear or defects. Incumbents work within prescribed guidelines but have the authority to make independent decisions in performing the work. Work is assigned orally and in writing, and is reviewed through personal observation and for results obtained. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS
Receives, identifies, stores, and issues automotive parts within a large parts room for the Department of Fleet Management. Examines and inspects automotive parts to ensure quality and for wear or defects; reports damages to supervisor. Maintains the computerized inventory system through the creation and receipt of stock orders. Maintains perpetual inventories and prepares detailed store records or reports; completes physical inventory. Prepares necessary paperwork to process purchases; issues purchase order numbers to vendors; receives quotes from vendors for automotive parts not under contract. Calculates and verifies vendor discounts; communicates with customers and vendors regarding inventory availability. Cleans and maintains supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas in order to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Operates equipment such as a forklift in handling receipts and withdrawals of stock.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of vehicle parts systems used in the repair of automotive, heavy, agricultural, and industrial equipment. Knowledge of periodic and perpetual inventory procedures. Knowledge of inventory control principles, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of computerized inventory systems to maintain and control inventory, track orders, and process payments. Knowledge of purchases and requisition procedures. Skill in the operation of a telephone, typewriter, calculator, copier, computer terminal, and related peripherals. Ability to maintain detailed stock records. Ability to make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy. Ability to use a wide variety of parts catalogs and computer programs to access information. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to perform manual labor work in lifting and removing stock. Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and two years of experience in inventory control, supply chain management, or warehouse operations

Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
